FAQ
How long does SMP last?
Scalp Micropigmentation can last for up to 5 years but may require a touch up yearly. With proper post care techniques, you can help preserve your treatment to maintain good results.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure does have some minimal pain however most people become numb after the first 5 minutes of treatment. You can apply ice to the area 30 minutes prior to the procedure to help with numbing. Topical lidocaine will be applied after the procedure to help minimize any post treatment discomfort.
Can a tattoo artist preform this procedure?
No, it is not recommended that you seek the services of a tattoo artist for hair loss. SMP uses a specialized technique and equipment with appropriate sized needles. Additionally, the ink used is formulated to your specific skin complexion. Incorrect application of the ink by a tattoo artist can lead to improper healing and outcomes. Unfortunately, I have seen some tattoo artist attempt the procedure and the person had blotches where the ink spread. My recommendation is to go to a licensed SMP specialist in your area.
What are my qualifications to perform SMP?
Currently I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Bowie State University. I have also worked for one of the top dermatologists on the east coast for the past 7 years. For SMP, I received training and certification from the best SMP technician in the area and have been practicing SMP for 2 years. Lastly, I have my blood borne pathogen certification and maintain proper safety and sterilization protocols.
